The DublinersThe Dubliners by James Joyce

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“It was not altogether his fault that it happened. … It was her bath night. She wore a loose open combing-jacket of printed flannel. Her white instep shone in the opening of her furry slippers and the blood glowed warmly behind her perfumed skin.”

There is the whole plot of The Boarding House in just a few, exquisitely erotic sentences.

I keep these stories by my bed because I dream of being able to write like that.

I’m (re)reading Dubliners too now… Joyce is such a pleasure, isn’t he? So unadorned in language, yet so delicate in vision. I love him. Thanks for sharing this!
