In the grip of love

Posted on: July 8, 2011

I admit to being one of those women who is in thrall to the idealised settings and condom-free ecstasy of romantic love as depicted in fiction. I am not doing myself any favours, according to family planning professional, Susan Quilliam.

But she is not a complete monster.

We aim to reassure our female clients that their first time may not be utterly joyful and that they may not gain reliable orgasms through penetration, but that they themselves are none the less existentially valid and that with affection and good humour things can improve immensely.

It’s nice to know I’m existentially valid even if I am in the grip of an idealised love.
